- historic info from the book, The 750 Mineral Springs of Greece: "Four radioactive, chlorosodium springs and one iron-rich spring are located within the region of the Community of Karya, in the Province of Locris, at the 40th kilometer of the public road from Lamia to Atalanti and the 37th from Atalanti. These springs belong to the State. For details regarding the radioactivity of these springs, see the dedicated publication by Mr. M. Pertesis, dated 1926. Of the radioactive springs, two — initially used as therapeutic springs — were discovered to be radioactive in 1925. In 1930, through the efforts of the Directorate of Thermal Spas and under the supervision of the then Director of the Geological Service (and now Professor at the University of Athens), Mr. G. Georgalas, a third radioactive spring was also identified. In 1937, a fourth such spring was discovered near the sea. The characteristics of these springs are as follows:"
